Moving Checklist
Send Change of Address to:
- Post office: Give forwarding address, can be done online
- Charge Accounts, credit cards
- Bank direct withdrawal accounts
- Charge Accounts, Credit Cards
- Subscriptions: Notice may require several weeks to transfer
- Friends & Relatives
- Transfer Bank Funds, pre arrange check-cashing in new city
- New Location Insurance Coverage: Life, Health, Fire, Auto
- Automobile transfer of car title registration, driver’s license, city windshield stickers and motor club memberships
- Utility companies, gas, water, telephone, fuel, cable, cell phone accts or satellite
- Arrange for refunds of deposits and service in new town
- Home delivery: laundry, paperboy, change-over services
- School records: ask for copies or transfer children’s school records
- Health, Medical, dental prescription histories Ask for doctor and dentist for referrals, transfer needed prescriptions, X-rays
- Church, clubs, civic organization; transfer memberships and get letters of introduction
- Pets; Ask about regulations of pet licenses, vaccinations, tags, etc
Don’t forget to
- Empty freezer, plan for use of foods
- Defrost freezer/refrigerator
- Have appliances serviced for moving
- Plan for special needs of infants, children, elderly, pets and potted plants
On Moving Day
- Keep your medicine with you: DO NOT PACK
- Carry your currency, jewelry, and all legal and important documents
- Carry traveler’s checks for quick available funds
- Let close friend or relative know your schedules and routes
- Leave all old keys; garage door openers etc for new owner with realtor
